About The Position

The Coffee Shop Barista prepares and replenishes coffee shop products, provides friendly customer service, and helps keep the department clean, stocked, and organized. The role involves taking orders in person and by phone, answering questions, processing payments where applicable, monitoring product freshness, and supporting the team to create a positive customer experience. No prior experience is required; training and support are provided.

Requirements

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Basic math skills, including simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
Ability to communicate clearly and helpfully with customers and teammates.
Ability to stay organized and keep pace in a busy coffee shop environment.
Less than a high school diploma or equivalent is accepted.

Up to six months of similar or related work experience.

Responsibilities

Greet customers warmly and provide outstanding service, including learning customers’ names and making each visit positive.
Take customer orders at the counter and over the phone, help customers find products, and answer questions.
Prepare and replenish coffee shop products as needed.
Monitor product freshness and appearance, and follow or develop a production list to meet daily needs.
Handle food safely and keep the work area clean, neat, and up to department standards.
Check in products, put products away, and review invoices as needed.
Operate the department register and process payments where applicable.
Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department.
Work with teammates to provide a smooth, positive customer experience.
Follow Hy-Vee’s dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
