Coffee Shop Barista
About The Position
As a Barista at Hy-Vee, you’ll serve as a friendly point of contact for customers while crafting beverages, keeping the coffee shop stocked and clean, and helping customers find what they need. The role suits someone who enjoys connecting with people, working in a fast-paced environment, and contributing to a team. No prior experience is required; training and support are provided. The position is performed in a store coffee shop environment, with pressure to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities throughout a shift. The role may involve exposure to noise, moving equipment, cleaning chemicals or solvents, electrical shock hazards, and temperature extremes. Safety training is provided. Employment is contingent on successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.
Requirements
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic math skills, including simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
- Ability to communicate clearly and helpfully with customers and teammates.
- Ability to stay organized and keep up with a busy coffee shop environment.
- Less than a high school diploma or equivalent is accepted.
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
Nice To Haves
- Up to six months of similar or related work experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and provide outstanding service, including learning customers’ names and making each visit positive.
- Take orders at the counter and over the phone, help customers find products, and answer questions.
- Prepare and replenish coffee shop products as needed.
- Monitor product freshness and appearance, and follow or develop a production list to meet daily needs.
- Handle food safely and maintain a clean, neat work area that meets department standards.
- Check in products, put them away, and review invoices as needed.
- Operate the department register and process payments where applicable.
- Remove trash promptly and keep the department tidy.
- Work with teammates to provide a smooth, positive customer experience.
- Follow Hy-Vee’s dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
- Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
