About The Position

The Barista works in Hy-Vee’s store coffee shop, providing friendly customer service and preparing beverages and coffee shop products. The role includes taking orders in person and by phone, helping customers find products and answer questions, keeping products stocked and fresh, handling food safely, maintaining a clean and organized work area, processing payments, and supporting teammates and other store areas as needed. Training and support are provided; prior experience is not required.

Requirements

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Basic math skills for simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
Clear, friendly communication with customers and teammates.
Ability to stay organized and keep pace in a busy coffee shop environment.
Less than a high school diploma or equivalent is accepted.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen is required for employment.

Nice To Haves

Up to six months of similar or related work experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Greet customers warmly and provide helpful, positive service.
Take customer orders at the counter and over the phone, help customers find products, and answer questions.
Prepare and replenish coffee shop products throughout the shift.
Monitor product freshness and appearance, and follow or develop a production list to meet daily needs.
Handle food safely and keep the work area clean, neat, and in accordance with department standards.
Check in products, put products away, and review invoices as needed.
Operate the department register and process payments where applicable.
Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department.
Work with teammates to provide a smooth, positive customer experience.
Follow the company dress code, hygiene standards, and policies.
Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
