About The Position

Craig Technologies is seeking a 5-Axis CNC Machinist for its Manufacturing team in Houston, Texas. The role supports high-precision production of critical flight aerospace components for a commercial Lunar program. The machinist connects digital CAM programming with hands-on precision machining to produce flight-ready hardware from advanced space-grade materials. The position involves analyzing engineering drawings and specifications, creating and maintaining multi-axis machining programs, planning safe manufacturing processes, preparing materials, setting up and operating precision 5-axis milling equipment, and inspecting completed parts. The machinist also collaborates with design and manufacturing engineers, troubleshoots production issues, and performs routine equipment maintenance and calibration. Candidates must meet applicable U.S. government ITAR eligibility requirements and, if selected, pass background and drug screening and meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent vocational trade certification.
  • 4–6 years of direct experience setting up, programming, and operating 5-axis CNC mills.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD/CAM software for component modeling, toolpath generation, and assembly management.
  • Expert-level understanding of raw G- and M-code scripting and manipulation.
  • Direct experience machining aerospace-grade composites, carbon fibers, or complex flight structures.
  • Familiarity with aerospace and commercial specifications for flight materials, processing, fasteners, and mechanical tolerances.
  • Understanding of workshop health and safety regulations.
  • Proficiency with basic digital shop-tracking tools and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, including the ability to adjust parameters during a run.
  • Ability and willingness to work efficiently under compressed flight-hardware delivery schedules.
  • Collaborative teamwork and communication skills in a cross-disciplinary, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Clear verbal and written communication and a safety-first organizational mindset.
  • Ability to lift and move approximately 50–75 pounds as required.
  • Ability to remain standing at a workstation throughout shifts.
  • Ability to travel less than 10%.
  • Must meet applicable ITAR eligibility requirements; candidates selected are subject to background investigation and drug screening and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating Haas, Okuma OSP, or Heidenhain controls.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing parts from high-strength aerospace alloys, including aluminum, titanium, and high-nickel alloys such as Inconel.
  • Familiarity with automated part-loading setups such as pallet changers and robotic arms, additive manufacturing, EDM, or Zeiss CMM inspection.
  • Proficiency with ASME Y14.5 GD&T principles.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze engineering specification charts, material samples, and complex manufacturing drawings, including GD&T requirements.
  • Create, optimize, and maintain multi-axis machining programs using CAM software.
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing engineers regarding material needs, manufacturability, and production timelines.
  • Develop step-by-step plans to safely manufacture complex, high-tolerance parts to engineering specifications.
  • Prepare, inspect, and mark raw stock and aerospace materials for manufacturing runs.
  • Set up, calibrate, and align precision tooling and 5-axis milling equipment.
  • Operate machinery, monitor production, and troubleshoot anomalies as they arise.
  • Inspect finished flight parts for flaws, tool marks, and defects using precision measurement instruments.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and calibration on machine-shop equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
