5-Axis CNC Programmer & Machinist
About The Position
This is a dual-role position responsible for taking complex components from concept through final machining. The role creates efficient, high-quality programs using the current version of Mastercam, sets up and operates premium multi-axis machinery, and maximizes production through automation and 3R work-holding solutions. It collaborates internally to advance best practices for detail processing, component setup, and work-holding strategies. The position involves programming and operating 3-axis and 5-axis CNC equipment, including Makino and Yasda machining centers with Fanuc controllers. It also uses automation and 3R work-holding systems to support efficient, unattended machining, while maintaining precision on tight-tolerance components. The listed work environment includes standing, walking, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead, bending to the floor, and occasionally pushing, pulling, or lifting approximately 10–50 pounds. Requirements
- At least 3–5 years of hands-on experience programming and operating high-precision Makino and Yasda 3-axis and 5-axis platforms.
- Mastery of the current version of Mastercam for multi-axis programming and toolpath verification.
- Expert-level familiarity with Fanuc controllers, including manual G-code editing, setting tool and work offsets, and troubleshooting machine alerts.
- Extensive operational experience with System 3R work-holding tooling or equivalent high-precision reference systems.
- Demonstrable understanding of mold components, tool/die detail processing, and the engineering requirements of a high-precision mold shop.
- Strong mathematical aptitude, spatial reasoning, and understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Excellent verbal communication, teamwork, collaboration, and interpersonal communication skills.
- High school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Successful completion of a trade school and/or apprenticeship program.
Responsibilities
- Develop, simulate, and optimize complex toolpaths for 5-axis and 3-axis CNC machining operations using the latest version of Mastercam.
- Safely set up, prove out, and operate Makino and Yasda multi-axis machining centers equipped with Fanuc controllers.
- Implement and manage 3R work-holding systems and integrated automation to improve machine utilization and enable unattended machining.
- Collaborate with mold makers to develop, standardize, and implement manufacturing best practices for work holding and detail processing.
- Select cutting tools, calculate speeds and feeds, and troubleshoot machining strategies to reduce cycle times and tooling wear and prevent collisions.
- Interpret engineering blueprints, CAD models, and technical specifications, and inspect finished components using precision measuring instruments.
- Maintain regular attendance during scheduled work hours.
