About The Position

The CNC (5 Axis) Programmer/Machinist interprets technical drawings and sets up metalworking processes, including workholding fixtures, process steps, equipment, and tooling selection. The role programs, sets up, proves out, and operates 5-axis CNC machinery in accordance with quality standards, and supports process improvement and part inspection. This position is 100% onsite in Cape Canaveral, Florida, Monday through Friday on the day shift. Overtime may be required, and travel may be less than 10%.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Three years of experience in 5-axis (3+2-axis) CNC programming and machining using Mastercam; applicants with at least 10 years of experience may be considered for a Senior-level role.
Complete working knowledge of GD&T (ANSI Y14.5) and proficiency reading and understanding part manufacturing drawings.
Experience with Mazak and Haas machining centers.
Mastery of high-speed machining and toolpath optimization.
Ability to read CAD models and 2-D prints and update paperwork neatly, accurately, and in an organized manner.
Troubleshooting skills and ability to think critically.
Ability to work independently and productively within a team.
Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment with tight deadlines.
Ability to work with and provide feedback to departments and customers, both within the shop and externally.
Ability to travel less than 10%.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, including the described physical requirements.
Must meet applicable U.S. Government ITAR eligibility requirements: be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.
Selected candidates are subject to a background investigation and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

Experience programming several other CNC milling centers and controls, including Fanuc, Mazatrol, or Heidenhain.
At least 10 years of experience may qualify an applicant for consideration at the Senior level.

Responsibilities

Interpret technical drawings and establish metalworking processes, workholding fixtures, process steps, equipment, and tooling selections.
Write programs for 2- and 3-axis through 5-axis machines using Mastercam.
Set up and prove out processes on 5-axis CNC Mazak and Haas machines.
Operate machines manually for non-automated functions and when automatic programming is faulty or a machine malfunctions.
Fabricate dies, jigs, and fixtures for workpiece orientation or workholding as needed.
Monitor CNC processes and implement proactive solutions and improvements to processes, line flow, quality, and efficiency.
Develop machine setups and program edits, working with tolerances to +/- .0001”.
Measure and inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, and other inspection equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
