About The Position

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s Department of Medical Physics has an opening for a two-year therapeutic medical physics residency. The start date is flexible between March and July 2026. Residents receive hands-on, high-volume exposure to advanced radiotherapy modalities and train with experienced mentors at a major cancer center. Candidates must meet CAMPEP requirements before entering the residency. The Department of Medical Physics includes more than 80 faculty physicists and computer scientists, along with additional staff. Its research and development programs include real-time motion adaptation on MR-linac and conventional linac platforms; machine-learning and AI predictive models for treatment planning; treatment-planning optimization; integration of MR and PET imaging into radiotherapy decision-making and planning; 4D imaging and motion management; deep learning and AI for image analysis and tissue segmentation; and informatics-based adaptive radiotherapy. Resources include 30 linear accelerators, a combined treatment room-MRI-Linac system, six HDR units, CT, PET/CT and MRI simulators, advanced inter- and intra-fractional imaging and motion-management capabilities, and access to a high-performance computer cluster with advanced GPU resources. The department also partners with the New York Proton Center, which has a cyclotron, three rotational gantry treatment rooms, a fixed-beam treatment room, a research beam room, PET/CT, two CTs, two MRIs, and related clinical support space. Applicants should submit a single merged PDF containing a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and a list of three references. References will be contacted after a shortlist is determined. Compensation is based on MSKCC standard rates and experience; the stated salary range is $79,904–$82,925 annually. The posting also notes that the pay range represents annual salary only and excludes supplemental performance-based pay and any one-time payments that eligible candidates may receive at hire.

Requirements

  • Meet CAMPEP requirements before entering the residency by completing a CAMPEP-accredited graduate program (MS or PhD) or a CAMPEP-accredited medical physics certificate program.
  • Have an MS or PhD in medical physics from a CAMPEP-accredited graduate program, or a PhD in a related scientific discipline together with a certificate in medical physics from a CAMPEP-accredited certificate program.
  • Demonstrate interest in and commitment to high-quality patient care.
  • Submit a single merged PDF containing a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and a list of three references.
