About The Position

The Clinical Registry Reporting Specialist abstracts clinical data from the Cerner electronic health record into national and state clinical registries, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with registry specifications. The role performs quality assurance validation and inter-rater reliability testing, keeps current with changing registry requirements and clinical guidelines, and translates registry benchmark data into performance comparisons for Banner Health and its clinical and executive stakeholders.

The position supports the full lifecycle of clinical registry reporting across multiple registries and service lines, including data abstraction, validation, and submission. It also works with physicians, service line leaders, quality teams, and registry coordinators to resolve data questions and support performance improvement. The stated schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on the day shift.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Physician Assistant Studies, Medicine (MBBS, MD, DO), or equivalent working knowledge in other related clinical healthcare fields.
• 2 to 4 years of clinical experience in an acute care hospital setting.
• Strong understanding of medical terminology, chart review, and clinical documentation.
• High attention to detail with demonstrated data accuracy and quality focus.
• Proficiency with EHR systems; Cerner is strongly preferred.

Nice To Haves

• Certifications in SCR (Surgical Clinical Reviewer) or ODS (Oncology Data Specialist).
• Prior clinical registry abstraction experience, such as ACC/NCDR, STS, NSQIP, AHA Get with The Guidelines, Cancer/COC, or state registries.
• Certified clinical data abstractor credential, such as CCDS, RHIA/RHIT, or a registry-specific certification.
• Experience with performance benchmarking, dashboards, or quality reporting tools such as Power BI.
• Additional related education and/or experience.

Responsibilities

• Abstract clinical, procedural, and outcomes data from Cerner patient charts into assigned clinical registries according to each registry’s data dictionary and specifications.
• Perform routine quality assurance validation on abstracted records to ensure data integrity, completeness, and accuracy before submission.
• Participate in and support inter-rater reliability testing and audits to maintain consistent abstraction and meet registry reliability thresholds.
• Submit validated data by registry deadlines to ACC/NCDR, STS, AHA Get with The Guidelines, ACS NSQIP, and other assigned registries.
• Maintain current knowledge of registry specification changes, clinical guideline updates, and abstraction rule changes, and complete required registry certifications and training.
• Retrieve registry performance reports and translate results into clear comparisons with national and peer-system benchmarks for clinical and executive stakeholders.
• Work across multiple registries and service lines as assigned, supporting consistent system-wide abstraction and benchmarking.
• Partner with physicians, service line leaders, quality teams, and registry coordinators to resolve data questions and support performance improvement initiatives.
