About The Position

The Clinical Operations Manager will own operations for Optain’s U.S. provider network of optometrists and ophthalmologists who read retinal images for health systems, clinics, and community health centers. The role will build and maintain the policies, quality program, capacity model, recruitment processes, and governance practices needed to support a growing network. It will turn operational knowledge currently held by a small number of people into documented, measurable, and repeatable processes. This is a non-clinical role reporting to the VP of Operations and working day to day with Optain’s Medical Director. The position supports the Medical Director’s clinical oversight by preparing quality reviews and decisions, routing clinical matters for adjudication, and carrying out resulting actions. It also partners with Product and Engineering to document workflows and improve the platform, reducing manual work as the network expands. Optain develops software and hardware for detecting and managing eye and systemic conditions. Its platform uses AI and machine learning in frontline care settings. The company has FDA clearance for its Resolve retinal camera and acquired EyePACS, a teleophthalmology platform with an established network of licensed eye-care professionals. This is a remote, U.S.-based position, with occasional travel for team offsites and customer engagements.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in healthcare operations.
  • At least 2 years managing a network of contracted or affiliated clinicians.
  • Experience writing clinical or operational policy signed by a physician leader and maintaining it afterward.
  • Experience running or materially contributing to a clinical quality, peer review, or provider performance program.
  • Comfort building and interpreting operational dashboards and capacity models using spreadsheets or BI tools.
  • Clear, direct written communication skills and comfort working with physicians as a non-clinician.
  • Experience driving adoption of new processes across teams without direct reporting authority.
  • U.S.-based and comfortable with remote work and occasional travel for team offsites and customer engagements.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to credentialing, medical staff services, or multistate clinician licensing.
  • Teleophthalmology background.
  • Experience participating in product discovery or operationalizing new feature launches.

  • Design and operate the grader quality program, including sampling, over-read and discordance review, turnaround accountability, and performance feedback.
  • Prepare quality reviews and escalations for Medical Director adjudication and carry out resulting actions, including performance conversations and offboarding.
  • Build and maintain a capacity model by state, customer, and license coverage, and set recruitment triggers in advance of turnaround breaches.
  • Run the grader recruitment pipeline from sourcing through interview and recommendation, partnering with the Operations Manager on credentialing and onboarding execution.
  • Own intake, triage, and routing of customer and grader complaints, including urgent findings workflows; route clinical questions to the Medical Director, close the loop with customers, and track issues over time.
  • Set agendas, prepare decisions, and follow through so the Medical Director can focus on clinical judgment rather than logistics.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering on platform improvements that reduce manual work, document current-state workflows, and contribute network measures to the weekly grader operations rhythm and company scorecard.
