Under general supervision and in accordance with established policies, procedures, and professional guidelines, the Clinical Nurse delivers nursing care to patients. The nurse plans and implements care, documents nursing assessments, identifies and reports situations requiring further intervention, formulates and communicates a goal-directed plan of care, and assures patient rights. Job duties are performed in accordance with Tampa General Hospital’s mission, vision, and values and the principles of quality improvement. The ED Hold Unit is a specialized inpatient nursing department located within the Emergency Department. Its dedicated inpatient nursing team cares for admitted Medical-Surgical and Cardiac patients under inpatient or observation status, beginning care in close collaboration with the ED nursing team. Patients with inpatient status are transferred to inpatient units as beds become available; observation patients remain in the ED Hold Unit for the duration of their stay. Department priorities include rapidly assuming care after admission orders are placed to alleviate ED congestion, delivering safe and high-quality inpatient-level care in non-traditional ED spaces, and promoting purposeful care planning to reduce length of stay and support timely transitions.
