About The Position

The Clinical Nurse B-Emergency Department functions in the emergency department at Loma Linda University Medical Center-Murrieta, a designated STEMI receiving center. With minimal supervision, the nurse performs the nursing process—assessment, care planning, intervention, and evaluation—in a fast-paced setting serving a culturally diverse patient population with varied illnesses, diseases, and injuries. The nurse rapidly assesses and stabilizes patients in life-threatening situations and uses sound judgment to prioritize, coordinate, provide, and document direct and indirect, age-specific, developmentally appropriate, patient-centered care in accordance with the facility’s Professional Practice Model (Duffy’s Quality Caring Theory). The role involves managing multiple cases, responding calmly to changing situations, implementing standing orders appropriately, and working collaboratively with physicians and the multidisciplinary team. Patients arrive by land or air ambulance, through mass-casualty events, and as walk-ins. The nurse assists with common and complex procedures according to orientation and competency, and demonstrates confidence in community emergencies, catastrophic incidents, and mass casualties. The role also requires awareness of emergency and trauma service agencies and applicable state and federal regulations, including EMTALA, local EMS agencies, REMSA, and EMSA. The nurse applies theoretical concepts to practice, develops emergency nursing knowledge and skills, and contributes to nursing excellence and improvements in patient experience and clinical outcomes. The position directly supervises and delegates tasks to licensed and unlicensed staff in a skills-mix environment, while contributing to a caring and cooperative workplace. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
