Under general supervision and in accordance with established policies, procedures, and professional guidelines, the Clinical Nurse delivers nursing care to patients. The nurse plans and implements care, documents nursing assessments, identifies and reports situations requiring further intervention, formulates and communicates goal-directed plans of care, and assures patient rights. Job duties are performed in accordance with Tampa General Hospital’s mission, vision, values, and quality-improvement principles. The ED Hold Unit is a specialized inpatient nursing department located within the Emergency Department. Its dedicated inpatient nursing team cares for admitted Medical-Surgical and Cardiac patients under inpatient and observation status, collaborating closely with the ED nursing team. Care begins in the Emergency Department. Inpatient-status patients transfer to inpatient units as beds become available; observation-status patients remain in the ED Hold Unit for their stay. The department prioritizes rapid assumption of care after admission orders to alleviate ED congestion, safe and high-quality inpatient-level care in non-traditional ED spaces, and purposeful care planning to reduce length of stay and support timely transitions.
