About The Position

The Clinical Nurse B-Special Procedures demonstrates specialized knowledge and basic competency to perform invasive and non-invasive treatment and procedures related to the practice of gastroenterology, interventional radiology, pulmonology, procedure related sedation and infusion services for stable and unstable inpatients and outpatients. Assists the physician with multiple types of simple to complex diagnostic and interventional procedures including, but not limited to: line placements, drain placements, biopsies, stent placements, tube placements, paracentesis, thoracentesis, and blood product administration. Performs pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure duties in accordance with established policies and procedures and professional practice guidelines. Utilizes skilled discretion and independent judgment to prioritize, coordinate, provide and document direct and indirect age-specific and developmentally appropriate quality patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment. Exhibits interpersonal skills that portray professionalism and maximize excellence in customer service and safe patient care. Performs the nursing process (assessment, care planning, intervention, evaluation) in a dynamic environment and in accordance with LLUMC-Murrieta's established Professional Practice Model (Duffy's Quality Caring Theory) to achieve proficient individualized physical, psychosocial and spiritual wellness and provide compassionate bereavement support as appropriate. Intervenes as a patient advocate as necessary. Uses available resources to address ethical issues. Meets qualifications, licensure, certifications and competencies as defined in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care. Functions in a skills mix environment and effectively supervises and delegates tasks to a team of licensed and unlicensed staff in accordance with level of competency. Applies theoretical concepts to clinical practice and exhibits self-motivation to continually expand knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in procedural and perianesthesia nursing. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Minimum of one year experience in Interventional Radiology or Critical Care required.
  • Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience placing PICC lines preferred.
  • Spanish preferred.
