About The Position

The Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) is responsible for promoting the Mission, Vision and Values of the Saskatchewan Health Authority through the provision of safe quality nursing care to clients. The Clinical Resource Nurse educates, mentors and supports unit staff, promotes patient safety, occupational health and safety and quality improvement on the unit.

Requirements

Requires a minimum of five (5) years recent nursing experience related to the clinical program area.
Previous leadership experience is required.
Graduate from an approved School of Nursing.
Requires, or in progress towards, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a recognized university.
Understands principles of adult education.
Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrates expertise in medical nursing, technical skills and psychosocial aspects of care.
Demonstrates well-developed critical thinking abilities and sound clinical judgment and the ability to maintain composure under stress. Also requires the ability to foster these skills in other staff.
Demonstrates in-depth knowledge to assess and manage acute and chronically ill patients.
Demonstrates ability to do research and apply knowledge related to current best practice.
Demonstrates initiative, self-direction, and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively in an integrated multidisciplinary team. The ability to facilitate teamwork is essential.
Demonstrates ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal/consultative relationships and communication patterns including conflict resolution in order to work effectively with staff, physicians, and families.
Strong leadership skills are essential.
Demonstrates resourcefulness and judgment to collaboratively plan, implement, and evaluate program development activities such as quality improvement projects.
Demonstrates ability to accept and implement change.
Demonstrates commitment to continuing professional development.
Current registration with College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS).
Requires current BCLS certification.
Other specialty certifications related to the clinical program area as required

Responsibilities

The Clinical Resource Nurse is an experienced nurse who is an expert in the assigned clinical program area and maintains that expertise through ongoing professional development.
In cooperation with the Clinical Nurse Educator, the CRN provides education to nurses and other health team members as appropriate and will provide clinical orientation and mentoring to new employees.
The CRN is responsible to meet and promote all clinical practice standards, provide leadership, clinical orientation and mentoring, and be accountable for personal professional growth.
The Clinical Resource Nurse has responsibility for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive care for the defined patient population associated to the clinical program area.
The Clinical Resource Nurse is a self-directed practitioner who has effective communication skills and who works collaboratively with all team members for provision of quality care.
Interprets program policies/procedures, protocols and practice standards to staff.
Initiates and assists with the review/revision of policies, procedures, protocols and practice standards in collaboration with the Manager.
The Clinical Resource Nurse will use a consultative approach to provide support to other healthcare professionals as appropriate.
Assists and guides staff in problem solving identification and suggest approaches to resolve issues.
Provides support to the Manager by: Collaborative development and/or implementation of quality improvement initiatives and assists with evaluation and ongoing monitoring of these initiatives.
Ongoing monitoring, development and maintenance of clinical skills on the unit.
Auditing and collaborating in planning and documenting care.
Collaborating in educational initiatives.
Assesses staffs' abilities to carry out assigned work and provides input into the performance appraisal of personnel.
Responsible for supervising and mentoring staff in the appropriate use of personal protective equipment and promoting adherence to infection control policies and procedures.

Participate in Risk Management activities such as critical incident reviews and team case reviews.
Identifies hazardous conditions, safety and security concerns and takes steps to address issues.
Responsible for conducting self in a safe and responsible manner as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
