About The Position

Sentara is hiring a full-time Day Shift Registered Nurse, Manager for the Dedicated Oncology Unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA. The Oncology 6 RP Unit is a 36-bed inpatient Intermediate Care Unit dedicated to caring for patients with cancer. Nurses on this unit provide compassionate, specialized care while monitoring patient conditions, administering medications, delivering chemotherapy and other treatments, and supporting patients through complex care needs. Care provided on this unit includes chemotherapy, hospice, radiation, stem cell transplant/CAR-T, radioactive iodine, and symptom management. Work within one of the country’s largest cancer networks, accredited as an Integrated Network Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including board-certified and fellowship-trained cancer experts, to support individualized patient care. Provide care in an environment that prioritizes advanced, evidence-based technology and treatments, including innovative radiation therapies, robotic surgery, and HIPEC®.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Required
  • One year of Management experience required
  • 2 years experience in a support leadership RN position, i.e. Unit Coordinator, Team Lead, or other like position may be accepted in lieu of 1 year formal management experience.
  • Registered Nurse license required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire
  • Three years of RN experience required

Responsibilities

  • The Clinical Nurse Manager has overall accountability for the daily operations of one or more clinical areas.
  • Supervises patient care services staff, ensures excellent patient safety and quality outcomes as well as extraordinary patient/family experience.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, developing and retaining staff with the goal of developing a highly reliable team.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills to achieve unit and corporate goals.
  • Assists in the development and monitoring of unit budget, coordinates purchasing and payroll processes and serves as a clinical resource to team members.
