About The Position

This position is for an Open Rank, Clinical Faculty Appointment in Melanoma Medical Oncology. The role involves providing clinical expertise in patient care management and teaching fellows, residents, and students. The faculty member will primarily serve as an attending physician in both outpatient and inpatient settings, acting as a primary physician responsible for patient history, physical examinations, and all aspects of primary patient care, including cardiac resuscitation. The position requires practicing clinical medicine to high standards, performing invasive procedures as dictated by the subspecialty, and developing a clinical practice for referred patients. Responsibilities include staffing outpatient clinics and inpatient services, reviewing and approving charge documents, completing patient documentation, corresponding with physicians, attending continuing education, requesting consultations, serving as a role model, conducting peer reviews, and working effectively in a team environment. Research activities include developing research programs, participating in clinical trials, and identifying funding sources. Administrative duties involve participating in best practice initiatives and serving on institutional committees. Educational responsibilities include providing an integrated educational program in cancer medicine and participating in teaching conferences.

Requirements

Ability to dictate clearly and concisely.
Ability to correspond in writing or in telephone conversations with physicians regarding patient care and treatment.
Ability to assimilate information from continuing education conferences.

Responsibilities

Provide clinical expertise in patient care management and an appropriate teaching environment for fellows, residents, and students in the specialty of Melanoma Medical Oncology.
Serve as an attending physician in both the outpatient clinical area and the inpatient setting.
Provide the capability of a primary physician, including patient history, physical examinations, and all aspects of primary patient care, including cardiac resuscitation.
Practice clinical medicine in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners and the American College of Physicians, balanced with other academic activities.
Provide complete and thorough history and physical patient examinations.
Perform invasive procedures as dictated by the physician’s subspecialty of Melanoma.
Develop and maintain clinical practice for patients referred to UT MD Anderson.
Provide physician staffing for the outpatient Melanoma clinics and the inpatient Melanoma service.
Visually review for proper ICD-10 and CPT coding and approve all charge documents within five working days.
Complete patient documentation for medical records within timeframes provided by institutional policy.
Correspond as appropriate in writing or in telephone conversations with physicians regarding patient care and treatment.
Keep abreast of current approaches in the management of patients through attendance at continuing education conferences in the specialty.
Request appropriate consultations for Melanoma patients by phone conversations or in writing to other physicians.
Provide a role model as a practitioner for faculty, fellows, residents, and students.
Provide peer review for assessing the clinical practice of faculty within the department.
Work within a context of intense interpersonal relationships, including other physicians, patients, and subordinates.
Develop research programs of scholarly activities in keeping within the goals of the department.
Participate in the recruitment of patients to clinical trials.
Participate as a principal investigator or co-investigator in single-institution or multi-center clinical trials.
Develop investigator-initiated clinical trials.
Identify grants and funding sources for funding research.
Submit grants and protocols in accordance with rules and deadline applications.
Develop budgets and analysis and complete grant and protocol application forms.
Participate in the investigation and review of best practice initiatives and clinical and institutional effectiveness projects.
Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested by the Chair.
Represent the Department by participating in or presenting at local, regional, state, and national meetings in the field of medical oncology.
Provide a balanced and integrated educational program in cancer medicine for fellows, medical residents, and students rotating through the Melanoma services.
Attend and participate in Division/Department teaching and continuing education conferences.
