About The Position

Idaho State University is seeking a Clinical Assistant Professor for the School of Nursing. This is a full-time, 9-month faculty appointment in the Undergraduate Nursing Program. The primary responsibilities include high-quality clinical, laboratory, simulation, and didactic instruction. The role emphasizes excellence in teaching, student mentorship, curriculum implementation, and professional role modeling. Faculty will also contribute to service, leadership, and quality improvement initiatives within the School of Nursing. The assigned home campus will be the primary site for in-person teaching and will determine mileage for travel to clinical settings. This position is not eligible for new visa sponsorship; candidates with valid U.S. work authorization may be considered.

Requirements

  • Earned Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution.
  • Unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States, eligible for licensure in Idaho by the start date.
  • Previous teaching experience in undergraduate nursing education, including classroom, laboratory, simulation, clinical, and/or distance learning environments.
  • Minimum of two years of professional nursing practice in a patient care setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional nursing values, ethical practice, and student-centered education.

Nice To Haves

  • Earned terminal degree in nursing (e.g., DNP, PhD, EdD, DNAP).
  • Previous teaching experience in undergraduate nursing education, including classroom, laboratory, simulation, clinical, and/or online learning environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in faculty mentorship, course coordination, clinical education coordination, or program administration.
  • Experience with curriculum development, assessment, accreditation, and continuous quality improvement processes in academic or healthcare settings.
  • Knowledge of AACN Essentials, CCNE accreditation standards, competency-based education, and nursing licensure requirements.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success through the use of evidence-based, learner-centered teaching strategies.
  • Experience working with students and an understanding of the healthcare needs of rural, frontier, underserved, and medically vulnerable communities.
  • Active engagement in professional service, scholarly activities, quality improvement initiatives, or leadership within nursing or healthcare organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides instruction in undergraduate nursing courses across classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings.
  • Facilitates student learning and evaluates student performance.
  • Integrates evidence-based practice and clinical judgment into teaching.
  • Collaborates with faculty to ensure consistent, high-quality educational experiences across campuses.
  • Participates in curriculum development, implementation, assessment, and continuous quality improvement to ensure alignment with AACN Essentials, CCNE accreditation standards, licensure requirements, and program outcomes.
  • Mentors adjunct faculty, clinical instructors, and instructional support personnel.
  • Collaborates with clinical partners and preceptors to support student learning.
  • Engages in service and shared governance activities.
  • Advises students.
  • Attends faculty meetings and key School events.
  • Participates in committee work.
  • Contributes to initiatives that support student success, program quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Teaching workload may be adjusted to support approved leadership, service, quality improvement, or scholarly activities.
