About The Position

Provides professional nursing care within an assigned unit and coordinates care planning with other disciplines. The nurse applies advanced clinical expertise to resolve complex patient, management, and physician problems without supervision, and delivers care appropriate to the age-specific needs of the population served. The role also includes precepting, staff supervision, education, unit orientation, and participation in quality improvement activities.

Requirements

Minimum of three years of professional experience.
Must have and maintain Tennessee State RN licensure.
CPR required.
Education must be sufficient to meet the standards for the required license and/or certification; no specific minimum education is stated.

Responsibilities

Correlate patient history and support systems within hospital or nursing home care.
Assess the needs of patients and families.
Develop and initiate plans of care involving patients and families; recommend interventions and evaluate the plans of care.
Resolve complex patient, management, and physician problems without supervision.
Demonstrate competence in critical skills and deliver care according to the age-specific needs of the population served.
Lead process improvement initiatives in the unit or participate on a facility team.
Precept new employees or students, or attend a formal preceptor workshop and be willing to precept.
Review preceptee clinical performance with the unit leader or clinical instructor.
Provide four contact hours of educational activities, excluding basic patient education.
Contribute to development and evaluation of the unit orientation program.
Supervise LPNs, Nursing Assistants, HUCs, Techs, and sitters.
Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Complete required annual education assignments.
Work toward goals and objectives and participate in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
Perform other duties as assigned.
