Clerk Part Time
About The Position
The Grocery Clerk keeps store grocery shelves stocked and clean during business hours, assists customers as needed, maintains a friendly and energetic demeanor, and follows Grocery Department procedures. The role includes maintaining product presentation and accurate pricing, receiving and checking shipments, monitoring product rotation and shelf life, and supporting grocery displays and inventory preparation. The clerk uses equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks, and maintains product knowledge and a clean, sanitary department.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency degree.
- Maintain the highest level of customer service.

- Demonstrate strong attention to detail and prioritize work to meet deadlines.

- Be familiar with Health Department guidelines and regulations for grocery retail.
- Have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
- Understand proper handling, preparation, seasonality, and appropriate shelf life of products.
Nice To Haves
- Preferred 1–2 years of grocery retail experience in Grocery department processes and procedures.
- Previous experience in the natural foods industry is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Keep grocery shelves, storage areas, and work areas clean and safe, including cleaning shelves and products, removing spills and debris, and sweeping.
- Stock and organize grocery products according to department schematics, maintain product presentation, and ensure tags and prices are accurate.
- Check product rotation and remove expired, outdated, or spoiled stock.
- Assist customers with purchases, information, and product selection; sell and cross-sell products.
- Receive, inspect, and log products for shipment accuracy, temperature, and quality.
- Monitor point-of-purchase signs and maintain recipe cards, coupons, promotional materials, and information about complementary foods.
- Operate equipment including knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
- Weigh and label products accurately using knowledge of scales and measures.
- Cut and stack cases to build grocery displays, and price and mark merchandise.
- Participate in pre-inventory preparation, including organizing back stock and ensuring tags match products.
- Maintain product knowledge and product preparation knowledge.
- Walk the department regularly to maintain an organized, sanitary, and clean appearance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
