About The Position

The Haines Trial Court of the Alaska Court System is accepting applications for a Clerk of Court. This position performs a broad range of clerical, customer service, and case processing duties in support of court operations. Assists the public in person, by telephone, and in writing by providing information, processing filings, marriage licenses, certified record requests, and other court-related services. Opens and maintains criminal, civil, small claims, and minor offense cases; enters and updates case information in court management systems; prepares court documents, summonses, writs, notices, and correspondence; and processes cases from initiation through closure. Receives and reconciles court payments, prepares bank deposits, and performs record searches and notary services. Serves as in-court clerk and jury clerk by supporting courtroom proceedings, managing jury operations, and administering oaths. Maintains court records, forms, manuals, and office supplies, coordinates with justice partners and local agencies, and performs other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the court.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate
  • One year of general clerical, office or retail work experience
  • Ability to type at least 40 words per minute (net)
  • Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate
  • Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college
  • A valid keyboarding certificate demonstrating a minimum typing speed of 40 net words per minute (WPM)
  • A letter of interest
  • A list of three (3) professional references who have had supervisory authority over you, including your most recent supervisor, along with their daytime contact phone numbers and email addresses.
