About The Position

The Colorado Springs Municipal Court is seeking an experienced Clerk of the Court to oversee the daily court operations and ensure the efficient administration of court services. This highly visible leadership role is responsible for supervising court operations, maintaining the integrity of official court records, supporting judicial operations, and driving operational excellence across the Court. Working closely with the Municipal Court Administrator, you will lead a dedicated team, improve processes, ensure compliance with legal requirements, and help shape the future of Municipal Court operations through innovation, collaboration, and exceptional public service. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and strategic leader who combines strong operational management with a deep understanding of court administration. They excel at developing high-performing teams, improving processes, navigating complex legal and administrative requirements, and fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of court administration, judicial processes, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Proven leadership experience developing high-performing teams and leading organizational change.
  • Experience improving operations, implementing process improvements, and managing complex programs.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills with exceptional judgment and discretion.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and court case management systems.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related area of study
  • Five (5) years of full-time professional experience in law enforcement, social work, court clerking, or in a related area
  • One or more years of administrator and/or supervisory experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a Municipal Court Violations Bureau environment or similar
  • Experience with state and local court procedures, including administrative case handling
  • Experience with case management software and justice information systems

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of the Municipal Court's Office, ensuring efficient, effective, and legally compliant court operations.
  • Direct court operations, including caseflow management, courtroom operations, official records, jury administration, appeals, transcripts, and records retention.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team through coaching, performance management, workforce planning, and employee development.
  • Drive operational excellence by improving business processes, implementing best practices, and leveraging data to enhance court performance and customer service.
  • Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures while monitoring legislative and regulatory changes to ensure compliance.
  • Serve as the Court's Custodian of Records, maintaining the integrity, security, and accessibility of official court records.
  • Partner with the Court Administrator, City leadership, and external stakeholders to advance strategic initiatives and organizational goals.
  • Act on behalf of the Court Administrator as needed and oversee special projects, procurement activities, and court fiscal operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
