About The Position

Kitsap County is seeking a Court Clerk to join the Office of the County Clerk. From managing complex court calendars and legal documentation to supporting jury trials and maintaining official court records, you'll become an integral part of the Superior Court team. Requirements

  • 2 years of administrative/clerical office experience that includes providing a high level of customer service.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and diplomatically with judges, attorneys, law enforcement personnel, jurors, court staff, and members of the public in sensitive and high-pressure situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain court schedules, coordinate calendars, and perform work accurately under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, handle sensitive information and evidence, and consistently demonstrate professionalism and impartiality while supporting the judicial process.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a courtroom or legal environment.
  • Familiarity with statewide court case management systems.
  • Experience supporting jury trials and courtroom proceedings.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and related applications.

Responsibilities

  • Manage courtroom operations, including opening/closing court, attending sessions, administering oaths, preparing minutes, recording proceedings via FTR/Zoom, and handling exhibits.
  • Perform accurate data entry into the statewide court database; scan, link, file, and process documents received by mail, fax, or electronic submission.
  • Prepare and issue court documents such as Clerk’s Orders of Dismissal, calendars, judgments, writs, search warrants, bench warrants, and general correspondence.
  • Provide customer service at the front counter and by phone, including filing pleadings, issuing writs, certifying documents, giving procedural information, and accepting payments.
  • Serve as a U.S. Department of State passport agent by processing and verifying passport applications.
  • Create and manage dockets and hearing schedules across civil, criminal, juvenile, dependency, probate, domestic relations, domestic violence, mental health, and specialty courts.
  • Coordinate with attorneys, prosecutors, GALs, jail staff, and law enforcement regarding case status and scheduling.
  • Support jury administration by checking in jurors, creating jury pools, preparing jury materials, and collaborating with the Bailiff.
  • Rotate to off-site locations for Juvenile and Dependency matters and attend hearings held at the county jail.
  • Provide backup support and assist in cross-training other Court Clerks and staff as needed.
