About The Position

Block by Block employs Ambassadors to make public spaces friendlier, safer, and cleaner for the communities they serve. The Cleaning Ambassador provides a visible street-level presence and performs a variety of cleaning tasks in an assigned zone while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor. The role also involves greeting and engaging pedestrians and visitors, providing directions or city information, and reporting unwanted behaviors or possible criminal activity to Safety Ambassadors using two-way radios.

The position is scheduled Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Experience is preferred but not required, and training is provided. Employees must be able to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, work outdoors in all conditions, and communicate in English to complete basic reports. A valid driver's license is required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be able to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English to create basic reports.

Nice To Haves

• Cleaning experience is preferred, but not required; training is provided.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a visible street-level presence and perform a variety of cleaning tasks in an assigned zone.
• Maintain a positive, professional demeanor.
• Acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting or smile, and provide directions or city information.
• Remove litter from streets, sidewalks, and alleys while moving through the zone with a rolling trash can containing supplies and tools.
• Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, and other surfaces.
• Pull weeds around tree wells, in sidewalk cracks, and in vacant lots.
• Damp-wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces such as trash can lids and news boxes.
• Watch for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report them to Safety Ambassadors via two-way radio.
• Complete basic daily reports of tasks performed.
