About The Position

Block by Block employs Ambassadors to make public spaces friendlier, safer, and cleaner for the communities they serve. The Cleaning Ambassador works visibly at street level, completing cleaning tasks in an assigned zone while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor. The role also involves greeting and engaging pedestrians and visitors, providing directions or city information, and reporting unwanted behavior or possible criminal activity to Safety Ambassadors. The position is part-time and pays $17.00 per hour, with weekly pay and access to pay advances. The listed shift is 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Requirements

Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be able to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions.
Must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English to create basic reports.

Nice To Haves

Experience is preferred but not required; training is provided.

Responsibilities

Carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor.
Acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting or smile, and provide directions or city information.
Collect litter from streets, sidewalks, and alleys while moving through the zone with a rolling trash can and supplies.
Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, and similar surfaces.
Pull weeds from tree wells, sidewalk cracks, and vacant lots.
Damp-wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces such as trash can lids and news boxes.
Watch for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report them to Safety Ambassadors using two-way radios.
Complete basic daily reports of tasks completed.
