About The Position

The Cleaner performs a wide range of specialized and routine cleaning activities independently or as part of a work team. Assignments may involve light, medium, or heavy physical effort and include cleaning offices, kitchens, common areas, hospitals and clean rooms, laboratories, residential facilities, and restrooms. This is a non-supervisory position designated as essential; the selected candidate must report to work or remain at work during class cancellations and limited campus operations in an emergency.

The position is part-time, 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. It is FLSA non-exempt and eligible for overtime provisions. The hiring rate is $17,748 at 0.50 FTE. The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation. The application should include a resume/CV and cover letter. The employer cannot sponsor work visas for this position.

Requirements

• There are no education or experience requirements.
• Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
• Must be able to follow and understand simple verbal and/or written instructions in English.
• Must successfully clear a background investigation.
• Must be able to work the stated part-time schedule: Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Responsibilities

• Clean lavatories, including sinks, urinals, and toilets, using hand-operated equipment and detergents.
• Remove refuse from buildings.
• Pick up hazardous articles found on floors, furniture, and equipment and place them in designated receptacles or appropriate locations.
• Move furniture and equipment as needed for cleaning and care functions.
• Wash floors, corridors, stairs, stairwells, walls, partitions, and interior windows using cleaning implements and detergents.
• Use ladders and scaffolds to replace light bulbs and dust or wash light fixtures and high areas such as ceilings.
• Interact appropriately with customers and notify supervisors when further assistance is required.
• Strip, vacuum, and wax floors and shampoo carpets using manual or mechanical equipment.
• Dust assigned areas using hand-dusting equipment.
• Polish wood and metal fixtures and equipment using designated equipment.
• Occasionally remove snow and ice from outdoor walkways and staircases using manual or mechanical equipment.
• Strip wax from furniture and clean and polish furniture.
• Perform other duties or projects as assigned, consistent with rank and departmental mission.
