About The Position

Cleaners perform a wide range of specialized and routine cleaning activities. This is a part-time position, 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation. This has been designated as an essential position, requiring reporting to work even during emergencies when classes may be canceled and the campus is on limited operations. Requirements

Per Civil Service Standards and Specifications.
No education or experience requirements.
Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
Must be able to follow and understand simple verbal and/or written instructions in English.
Must successfully clear a background investigation.

Responsibilities

Clean all areas of lavatories, such as sinks, urinals, toilets, etc., using hand-operated equipment and detergents.
Remove refuse from buildings.
Pick up and remove hazardous articles from floors, furniture, and equipment and place them in designated receptacles or appropriate places.
Move furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning and care functions.
Wash floors, corridors, stairs and stairwells, walls, partitions, and windows from the inside of buildings using mops, brushes, detergents, buffers, floor scrubbers, and other cleaning implements.
Replace light bulbs, dust and/or wash light fixtures and high places such as ceilings using appropriate equipment such as ladders and scaffolds.
Interact appropriately with customers and notify supervisors if further assistance is required.
Strip, vacuum, and wax floors and shampoo carpets using manual and/or mechanical equipment.
Dust assigned areas using hand-dusting equipment.
Polish wood and metal fixtures and equipment using designated equipment.
Occasionally remove snow and ice on outdoor walkways and staircases using manual and/or mechanical equipment.
Strip wax from furniture; clean and polish furniture.
Perform other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
