About The Position

The Claims Specialist will join AXIS Capital’s North America Claims team, within the Wholesale Financial Lines Claims team. The team handles excess and primary Employment Practices Liability (EPL), Directors and Officers (D&O), and related claims. The role focuses on investigating, analyzing, and evaluating EPL claims, making appropriate coverage determinations, and guiding claims toward successful conclusions. The specialist will work with sophisticated insureds and help resolve complex disputes while developing expertise in EPL claims and coverage and learning about other Wholesale Financial Lines products. The position reports to the Head of Wholesale Claims – Financial Lines.

The role involves determining valuations for complex claims, recommending settlement strategies, developing claim and litigation strategies, managing external legal advisors, and collaborating with insureds, brokers, partners, internal teams, and external coverage attorneys. It also includes travel for mediations, trial observation, and partner relationship-building; support for underwriting inquiries and claims trend analysis; and maintaining accurate, timely claim records. The position requires working in the office three days per week and complying with AXIS licensing requirements.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate.
• Ability to work effectively in high-visibility settings with shifting deadlines and evolving expectations while staying focused and achieving outcomes.

• Outstanding verbal communication and written expression.
• Litigation or litigation-management skills and knowledge of dispute resolution.
• Ability to independently write accurate, precise coverage letters.
• Ability to meet AXIS licensing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, analyze, and evaluate Employment Practices Liability claims and make appropriate coverage determinations.
• Determine valuations for complex claims and recommend settlement strategies in accordance with company policies.
• Collaborate effectively with insureds, brokers, and partners.
• Travel to participate in mediations, observe trials, and strengthen relationships with AXIS partners.
• Escalate coverage concerns to internal teams and work with external coverage attorneys when assignments require their involvement.
• Develop claim and litigation strategies, delegate tasks, and oversee external legal advisors.
• Assist with underwriting inquiries, analyze claim trends, conduct data analysis, and perform risk assessments to support decision-making.
• Maintain precise claim activity records and promptly update systems with relevant information.
