About The Position

The Hartford Global Financial Lines Cyber and Technology Team is hiring a claims professional to handle first-party and third-party Cyber and Technology claims from inception through final disposition. The role involves managing claims that are often litigated, including handling matters through resolution and managing defense counsel. The consultant investigates claims, analyzes coverage, liability, and damages, coordinates responses to active cyber incidents, establishes and monitors reserves, develops resolution strategies, and manages litigation. The position also involves communication with insureds and other parties, collaboration with business partners, support for underwriting, and participation in training, audits, projects, product development, and industry events. The role may be performed remotely or in a hybrid arrangement. Employees living near a listed office are expected to work in the office Tuesday through Thursday; employees who do not live near an office work remotely and are expected to come into an office as business needs arise. The annualized base pay range is $122,400–$183,600. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required.
At least three years of experience handling litigated coverage and/or liability cases as defense counsel or a claims handler, specifically in Cyber & Technology, Privacy and Data Breaches, Media Liability, and/or Professional Liability.
Proven track record handling Cyber & Technology liability claims.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent strategic thinking and execution skills.
Excellent negotiation and advanced technical claim-handling skills.
Strong time management, task prioritization, and desk management skills.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely and to influence and persuade others.

Nice To Haves

Juris Doctorate degree.
Knowledge of both first-party and third-party claims.

Responsibilities

Manage claim files from assignment through conclusion.
Conduct investigations and analyze and evaluate the information gathered.
Analyze and determine coverage, liability, and damages based on the facts of each claim.
For first-party cyber claims, investigate cybersecurity incidents, determine the cause of network intrusions, and coordinate with customers, law firms, and vendors to mitigate effects and arrange an appropriate response.
Respond quickly to urgent customer needs during active cyber incidents.
Communicate timely written positions to insureds and other required parties on coverage, liability, damages, and other issues.
Set appropriate expense and indemnity reserves and monitor them for needed adjustments.
Present cases to management when reserve authority exceeds established levels.
Develop and implement resolution strategies through negotiation.
Proactively manage litigation and counsel, including litigation planning and execution, budgeting, and bill review.
Understand and analyze potential extra-contractual liability as needed.
Attend trials and mediations as necessary.
Participate in audits, projects, training, and product development initiatives in support of broader claim and enterprise goals.
Prepare comprehensive reports and present case developments, policy issues, and industry trends to senior claim leadership.
Collaborate with business partners to evaluate and address claim trends and developments.
Respond to inquiries from agents and policyholders and provide customer service.
Provide training and marketing support to underwriters.
Attend and present at industry events on risk management and claims topics.
