About The Position

The St. Louis Public Library’s Schlafly Branch is seeking a circulation assistant. The Library values the talents and perspectives a diverse workforce brings and how this positively impacts our services and customer base. We seek people who understand these values to join our team. This position needs someone who is comfortable working with the public and is enthusiastic, patient, and committed to providing excellent customer service.

Requirements

Available to work at Charing Cross as well as the Schlafly location.
Friendly, patient, and able to multitask while assisting customers.
Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work with competing tasks and priorities.
Capable of effectively providing information and responding to questions from customers and staff.
Flexible, positive, and willing to work with staff and colleagues to successfully overcome challenges.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED), previous customer service experience preferred.
Strong communication and organization skills.
Comfort with using and learning new technology as the Library continues to evolve.

Responsibilities

Assist customers with library card registration and checking out and returning materials.
Assist in preparation, delivery, and receipt of Library materials; receive payment from customers.
Provide assistance to customers with Library equipment.
Restock and shelve materials, including shelf-reading, as necessary.
Assist in opening and closing the location.
