About The Position

The St. Louis Public Library’s Buder Branch is seeking a Youth Services Assistant. The Library values the talents and perspectives that a diverse workforce brings and how this positively impacts our services and customer base. We seek people who understand these values to join our team. Our ideal candidate is someone who will connect the community to our resources to further our primary mission as a customer-centered public library providing vital services to the people of St. Louis. This position will provide individual assistance and homework help to young customers, as well as implement key Library initiatives like 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and Summer Challenge. This position advances the Library's mission by ensuring that all young people who visit the Library feel welcomed and supported.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with children in a professional setting
  • Strong communication, writing, and speaking skills
  • Comfort with using and learning new technology as the Library continues to evolve.
  • Friendly, outgoing, and able to work with children and their caregivers.
  • Comfortable providing homework support to children of all ages
  • Able to supervise children and teen use of the Library, including setting boundaries and redirecting children and teens as needed
  • Comfortable supporting with group activities

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that youth and caregivers who visit the Library feel welcomed, have a positive experience, and find resources that meet their needs.
  • Assist in the facilitation of regularly scheduled youth programming activities, including programs and camps.
  • Promote and implement key Library programs like 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and Operation Food Search meals.
  • Read with children and help with their homework.
  • Support with daily circulation tasks.
