About The Position

Kids After Hours provides school-aged children with childcare and summer camp programs featuring a balance of child-initiated and staff-directed activities. The Child Care Counselor helps create a safe, accepting environment through active listening, engaging activities, and interactions that encourage responsibility and respect. Activities may include literacy, cultural arts, STEM, arts and crafts, sports, clubs, cooking, and free play.

Requirements

• At least 1–2 years of experience working with children.
• Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.
• Ability to work as part of a team and accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Must be at least 16 years old.

Responsibilities

• Assist with setting up and cleaning up rooms and activities, and prepare snacks.
• Organize, label, and replace equipment, games, and toys.
• Provide hands-on supervision by participating with children while ensuring their safety and whereabouts are monitored.
• Organize and lead small- and large-group activities, which may include crafts, nature activities, songs, games, and Kids Night Out.
• Interact positively with children and share activities or skills, such as games, knitting, or guitar.
• As a KAH Greeter, assist parents with drop-off and pick-up, share important information from the day, and answer questions.
• Communicate with parents about participants’ experiences and report concerns to Leadership.
• Know, enforce, and follow childcare and program-area safety guidelines, and understand program emergency procedures.
• Receive six hours of continuing education annually.
