About The Position

Chartwells K12 is hiring a Chef to lead culinary operations for a school district in Levittown, New York. Reporting to the Director, the Chef will encourage a safe and sanitary work environment and support the efficient functioning of the dining service operation. The role focuses on developing menus, guiding kitchen staff, maintaining facilities and equipment, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with health and sanitation requirements.

Requirements

• Two or more years of culinary or kitchen management experience.
• Hands-on chef experience.
• Solid knowledge of food trends, quality, production, sanitation, cost control, and presentation.
• Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and email systems.
• Willingness to engage in client satisfaction programs and activities.

Nice To Haves

• Associate’s degree in culinary arts or equivalent experience.
• Catering experience.
• Experience with complex foodservice operations, institutional cooking, and batch cooking.
• ServSafe certification.

Responsibilities

• Develop regular and specialty menus in line with K12 standards, adhering to portioning and presentation guidelines.
• Train kitchen staff in food preparation, equipment operation, and safety protocols, promoting a culture of excellence.
• Establish and maintain thorough cleaning and maintenance schedules for equipment and work areas.
• Manage food and supply inventory, optimizing utilization while ensuring vital products are readily available.
• Ensure compliance with health and sanitation regulations by following department procedures and participating in audits.
• Participate in departmental meetings, staff development initiatives, and professional programs to stay current with industry trends.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient functioning of the dining service operation.
