About The Position

Exegy is seeking a highly motivated Lead C++ Software Developer to join our Market Data Engineering group in Montreal. Operating in a highly collaborative tech environment, you will serve as the technical lead for our Montreal feedhandler group, with the vision and mandate to potentially expand technical leadership on a global scale. In this role, you will combine rock-solid C++ fundamentals with modern engineering practices and a passion for Agile leadership. You will lead the architecture, design, and delivery of time-critical, ultra-low latency, multi-threaded applications that interact with Exegy’s custom hardware acceleration devices. Beyond writing high-performance code, you will drive Agile processes, facilitate team workflows, align business goals with developer execution, and foster an automation-first culture.

Requirements

7+ years of multithreaded C++ software development with a deep understanding of concurrent programming, memory management, and low-latency design.
2+ years in a technical leadership or engineering lead role guiding teams through the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
Hands-on experience with modern engineering tools (CLI tools, automation frameworks) and a track record of applying software design patterns and clean OO architecture.
Strong commitment to automated testing (unit testing frameworks), profiling, memory leak detection, and continuous integration.
Strong command of Linux operating systems (RedHat, CentOS, SUSE) and Linux development/debugging tools.
Experience in financial market data, capital markets, algorithmic trading, or high-frequency distribution platforms is highly desirable.
Fits naturally into a highly collaborative, team-oriented engineering environment.
Fluency in French and English (written and spoken) required for the Montreal office.
Ability to work in a hybrid model with presence in the Montreal office.

Responsibilities

Serve as the hands-on technical lead for the Montreal feedhandler team, driving technical direction with the scope to influence feedhandler architecture globally.
Own the technical vision, system reliability, scalability, and maintainability for performance-sensitive, ultra-low latency C++ systems.
Champion modern development methodologies and developer tools (e.g., leveraging CLI workflows like Gemini CLI, modern C++ patterns, and automated profiling) to elevate team productivity.
Embed a strict "test-first/automation" culture, ensuring robust unit tests are written for all new features and refactored code.
Lead Agile practices and ceremonies, including facilitating team meetings, defining epics, and overseeing ticket assignments and sprint planning.
Establish, implement, and enforce team engineering standards, workflows, and code review processes, ensuring long-term adherence across the team.
Act as the primary bridge between product/business stakeholders and the engineering team to align technical solutions directly with business needs.
Design, implement, document, and debug reusable, extensible C++ feed handlers across Equities, Options, Commodities, Fixed Income, and Foreign Exchange (FX) markets.
Develop applications that interface directly with Exegy’s custom FPGA hardware acceleration devices.
Partner with Technical Account Managers (TAMs) and Operations to troubleshoot, optimize, and support production systems.
Cultivate a transparent, supportive, and highly collaborative tech culture in the Montreal office.
Coach engineers, guiding their technical maturity, adherence to best practices, and career progression.
Participate in interviewing and hiring to attract top engineering talent.
