About The Position

This announcement is for a Head Coach position for Cheerleading for the 2026-2027 School Year. The role involves coaching participants, maintaining records, providing guidance to squad members, recommending equipment purchases, determining athlete eligibility, ensuring facility and equipment safety, enforcing discipline and sportsmanship, and adhering to MIAA rules. The coach will also assist with uniform and equipment distribution/collection and organize team schedules. The position is contingent on student participation and has a stipend of $3,834, which may be subject to increase based on contract ratification and committee approval.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basketball and its rules, and ability to instruct players in all facets of the sport.
  • Evidence of ability to get along with pupils, parents, colleagues and other citizens.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Cheer coaching experience is desirable.
  • Previous experience in either high school, college or both is desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
  • Maintain accurate records of squad lists, injury reports, scores of games, incident reports, and physical examinations.
  • Be available during the entire school year to lend assistance in guidance and counseling to his/her squad members regarding scholastic achievement, college entrance, and citizenship.
  • Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms as appropriate.
  • Responsible for determining the athlete’s academic eligibility.
  • Oversees the safety conditions of the facility of area in which the assigned sport is played at all times that students are present.
  • Make regular check of the safety of all equipment.
  • Enforce discipline and encourage sportsmanship like behavior at all times.
  • Responsible for enforcing the rules set forth by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association.
  • Assists in the distribution and collection of all uniforms and equipment.
  • Coaches are responsible for equipment not returned by his team members at the designated time.
  • Organize and posts a daily schedule for the team and assistant coaches.
  • Performs all other duties as the principal may deem to be in the best interest of the sport, pupil and school.

Benefits

  • Stipend: $3,834 (Position is contingent on number of students playing)
  • Stipend amount may increase pending MEA ratification and Malden School Committee approval of the recommendations of the Joint Labor Management Committee (JLMC) on stipends.
