About The Position

The Field Hockey - Varsity Head Coach will be responsible for coaching individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport. This role involves maintaining accurate records, providing guidance and counseling to squad members, recommending equipment purchases, and determining athlete eligibility. The coach will oversee safety conditions of the facility and equipment, enforce discipline and sportsmanship, and ensure adherence to rules set by the headmaster, head coach, and the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association. Additionally, the coach will assist in managing uniforms and equipment, organize team schedules, and perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

Requirements

  • Previous Field Hockey coaching experience is desirable.
  • Previous experience in either high school, college or both is desirable.
  • Knowledge of basketball and its rules, and ability to instruct players in all facets of the sport.
  • Evidence of ability to get along with pupils, parents, colleagues and other citizens.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport.
  • Maintain accurate records of squad lists, injury reports, scores of games, incident reports, and physical examinations.
  • Be available during the entire school year to lend assistance in guidance and counseling to squad members regarding scholastic achievement, college entrance, and citizenship.
  • Recommend purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate.
  • Determine the athlete’s academic eligibility.
  • Oversee the safety conditions of the facility and the area in which the assigned sport is played at all times that students are present.
  • Make regular checks of the safety of all equipment.
  • Enforce discipline and encourage sportsmanship like behavior at all times, adhering to standards set by the headmaster and head coach.
  • Enforce the rules set forth by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association.
  • Assist in the distribution and collection of all uniforms and equipment.
  • Ensure equipment not returned by team members at the designated time is accounted for.
  • Organize and post a daily schedule for the team and assistant coaches.
  • Perform all other duties as the principal may deem to be in the best interest of the sport, pupil, and school.

Benefits

  • Stipend: $5,351 (Position is contingent on number of students playing)
  • Stipend amount may increase pending MEA ratification and Malden School Committee approval of the recommendations of the Joint Labor Management Committee (JLMC) on stipends.
