About The Position

This announcement is for the position of Cross Country - Boys Head Coach for the 2026-2027 School Year. The role involves coaching individual participants, maintaining records, providing guidance to squad members, recommending equipment purchases, determining athlete eligibility, ensuring facility and equipment safety, enforcing discipline and sportsmanship, and assisting with uniform and equipment distribution. The coach is also responsible for organizing daily schedules and performing other duties as assigned by the principal.

Requirements

• Knowledge of basketball and its rules, and ability to instruct players in all facets of the sport.
• Evidence of ability to get along with pupils, parents, colleagues and other citizens.
• Responsible for enforcing the rules set forth by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association.

Nice To Haves

• Previous Cross Country coaching experience is desirable.
• Previous experience in either high school, college or both is desirable.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
• Maintain accurate records of squad lists, injury reports, scores of games (report to athletic office and newspapers as requested), incident reports, physical examinations.
• Be available during the entire school year to lend assistance in guidance and counseling to his/her squad members; i.e. scholastic achievement, college entrance, citizenship.
• Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms as appropriate.
• Responsible for determining the athlete’s academic eligibility.
• Oversees the safety conditions of the facility of area in which the assigned sport is played at all times that students are present.
• Make regular check of the safety of all equipment.
• Enforce discipline and encourage sportsmanship like behavior at all times.
• Assists in the distribution and collection of all uniforms and equipment.
• Coaches are responsible for equipment not returned by his team members at the designated time.
• Organize and posts a daily schedule for the team and assistant coaches.
• Performs all other duties as the principal may deem to be in the best interest of the sport, pupil and school.

Benefits

• Stipend: $4,126 (Position is contingent on number of students playing)
• Stipend amount may increase pending MEA ratification and Malden School Committee approval of the recommendations of the Joint Labor Management Committee (JLMC) on stipends.
