About The Position
The Checker provides friendly and courteous customer service while accurately checking out purchases. The role includes identifying produce and using produce and product codes, processing coupons and customer payments, maintaining accurate register records and cash security, and bagging orders. Regular, reliable attendance is an essential function. Store-level training will be provided. Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of store management. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Internal candidates have additional preferred employment-tenure and standing requirements: Store/Facility Teammates should have at least six months of employment with Schnucks, and Store Support Center Teammates should have at least one year. Candidates must be in good standing and, if invited to interview, have manager approval based on performance.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Able to bend and stoop.
- Able to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Able to work on feet for the entire shift, which is 4–8 hours.
- Internal candidates must be in good standing—not on a performance improvement plan or active discipline.
- Internal candidates invited to interview must have manager approval based on performance.
Nice To Haves
- Store/Facility Teammates: at least six months of employment with Schnucks is preferred.
- Store Support Center Teammates: at least one year of employment with Schnucks is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide friendly and courteous service to customers.
- Maintain regular, reliable attendance.
- Greet customers before checking their orders.
- Accurately check out customer purchases.
- Identify produce items and use produce and product codes properly.
- Distinguish between manufacturer coupons and Schnucks coupons.
- Process manufacturer coupons.
- Collect the correct amount due from customers.
- Follow proper procedures for accepting cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, EBT cards, WIC vouchers, and other payment options.
- Complete register records accurately.
- Practice and maintain cash security.
- Bag customer orders.
- Change register receipt and coupon machine tapes.
- Perform other duties as assigned by store management.
