About The Position

The Character Performer creates fun, innovative family entertainment using specialized performance skills to provide guests with a positive experience. Duties include performing in a character costume and working out of costume as a character handler (cohort). Performers entertain guests at Nickelodeon Universe and Mall of America, help ensure guest and character safety, and support special events such as birthday parties and mall events. The role requires reliable attendance, maintaining clean work areas, and performing professionally for family audiences.

Requirements

• Provide excellent guest service.
• Represent Nickelodeon Universe and Mall of America with a high degree of professionalism.
• Use good listening skills when dealing with guests, coworkers, and supervisors.
• Work as part of a team and collaborate with other departments.
• Be able to work in a character costume and tolerate its conditions, including heat and confined space.
• Be in good physical condition.
• Be between 4 feet 11 inches and 5 feet 10 inches, with a slim or athletic build to fit existing character costumes.
• Safely stand on hard-surface floors for long periods.
• Perform regular bending, squatting, and lifting.
• Handle costumes weighing approximately 15–40 pounds, with weight distributed primarily across the neck, shoulders, and back.
• Tolerate extreme temperature changes in costume and cohort work.

Responsibilities

• Entertain Nickelodeon Universe and Mall of America guests in a professional manner.
• Ensure the safety of guests and costume characters.
• Provide outstanding internal and external guest service.
• Perform to the highest standards and act appropriately for family audiences.
• Take direction from Team Leads and Supervisors.
• Maintain cleanliness of work environments both onstage and off.
• Assist with setup, execution, and teardown of special events, including birthday parties and mall events.
• Maintain regular, reliable, and consistent attendance.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
