West Virginia University School of Medicine – Health Professions located in Morgantown, WV, is seeking an energetic and visionary leader with strong academic credentials and leadership skills to serve as the Chairperson of the Division of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSAD) education programs at West Virginia University. As a land grant, R1 university, the programs in the academic Health Sciences Center and its affiliated health system, are specifically offered to support the healthcare needs of the state of West Virginia and beyond. The education offerings in this division include an undergraduate, pre-professional degree (B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders), a Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology (on site and on-line) and a professional doctorate in audiology. The program is administratively housed within the School of Medicine Health Professions. Health Professions is home to over 1,400 students enrolled in degree programs including exercise physiology, respiratory therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech/language therapy, audiology, biomedical laboratory diagnostics, immunology, physician assistant, pathologists’ assistant and health information management. The chairperson of the Communication Sciences and Disorders program represents a division within the Department of Human Performance and as such will report directly to the Vice Dean for Health Professions. West Virginia University has a robust education infrastructure which supports the program This includes a world class simulation center, a new (2021) speech, language, and hearing clinic with state-of-the-art technology for educating students and providing clinical care, and a nationally recognized inter-professional education program. In addition, there is a large affiliated WVU Medicine Health System for clinical education of students. The Chairperson will serve as leader of the academic program and as such will be responsible for communication, ongoing program planning and assessment, providing mentorship and faculty development, and fiscal management. The chairperson will oversee the maintenance of program excellence, including accreditation and curriculum oversight. The chairperson serves as chief administrator of the education program, including oversight of student recruitment, admissions, curriculum, academic and professional standards, and program assessment.
