About The Position

UPMC is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Surgical Technologist to join its surgical team. The role supports patient care and surgical-suite operations by assisting with patient transportation, supplies and equipment, procedure turnover, and communication with clinical and ancillary staff. A sign-on bonus of $10,000–$25,000 is offered; the amount depends on experience and commitment length. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with 8-, 10-, or 12-hour shifts. Listed shifts are 6:30 a.m.–3 p.m., 6:30 a.m.–5 p.m., or 8:30 a.m.–7 p.m. The employee must also be available for off shifts and on-call shifts, and may need to work weekends or holidays or different days and shifts based on hospital needs.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Completion of an Operating Room Technician course.
BLS certification, or achievement of BLS certification within 30 days of employment.
Certified Surgical Technologists (CST).

Previous Operating Room Technician experience.
Certified Surgical Technologist–Cardiovascular Operating Room (CST-CVOR).

Responsibilities

Assists with patient transfer and transportation.
Inventories, orders, and restocks supplies.
Assists with maintenance, care, and cleanliness of surgical supplies, equipment, and the surgical suite.
Maintains an adequate inventory of patient and unit supplies and stores them appropriately.
Exchanges information about patient care issues or unit operations with Registered Nurses, Nursing Assistants, the Nurse Manager, and ancillary departments.
Assists in executing efficient turnover time between procedures.
Charges for supplies and equipment.
Demonstrates responsibility for cost containment and conservation of supplies and equipment.
