About The Position

The Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) provides aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. In addition to intraoperative duties, the CSFA also performs preoperative and postoperative duties to better facilitate proper patient care. They perform these functions during the operation under the direction and supervision of the surgeon and in accordance with hospital policy and appropriate laws and regulations. Expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Graduate from an accredited Surgical First Assistant Program.
Certification as a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) at hire or within six (6) months of graduation from Surgical First Assistant Program if currently employed as a Surgical Technologist.
Certification through NBSTSA, ABSA, OR NCCSA.
Maintain certification by completing applicable continuing education.
Complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
Complete de-escalation training by the end of position orientation (90 days).
Must have a valid driver license.
Must be able to work schedules assigned, with potential for changes.
Must be keyboard proficient.

Nice To Haves

A minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a surgical technologist preferred.
Intermediate knowledge of MS Outlook and Word.

Responsibilities

Provide aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions.
Perform preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate proper patient care.
