About The Position

The Surgical First Assistant assists the operating surgeon in the care of patients in surgery by performing selected duties. Provides direct and indirect technical care to surgical and obstetrical patients and facilitates the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. Follows established practices and standards, completes established competencies for the position within the designated introductory period, and performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate of a Surgical First Assistant program and eligible to earn certification through NBSTSA, ABSA, or NSAA within 120 days from graduation.
• At least 1 year of recent operating room experience, including direct patient contact and practice of proper sterile technique.
• Must be a Certified Surgical Technologist.
• Must hold certification as a certified first assistant through NBSTSA, ABSA, or NSAA and maintain certification through continuing education or recertification testing.
• Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support certification from ARC or AHA upon hire; must obtain AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire.
