About The Position

Mission Regional Medical Center is seeking a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) to work directly alongside surgeons in the operating room. The role supports safe, efficient, high-quality surgical care by helping position and prepare patients, maintaining the sterile field, assisting with instruments, providing surgical exposure, controlling bleeding, suturing, closing incisions, and anticipating the surgeon’s needs. This is a per diem (PD/PRN), as-needed position with variable shifts and hours at Mission Regional Medical Center in Mission, Texas. Mission Regional Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare, is a 297-bed, nonprofit hospital providing inpatient and outpatient services to the Rio Grande Valley. The hospital reports more than 60 years of serving the community and clinical recognition in services including maternity and orthopedic care.

Requirements

Credential as a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA).
Certification in Surgical Technology/Certified First Assistant.
Successful completion of a training program in a recognized First Assistant program.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Provider affirmation by the American Heart Association.
Basic computer skills.

Nice To Haves

Five years of experience in an acute care operating room in the scrub role, preferred.
Proficiency in Major Vascular, Thoracic, Open Heart, Orthopedics, OB/GYN, and General specialties.

Responsibilities

Assist the surgeon directly during procedures to support safe and efficient surgical outcomes.
Provide exposure to the surgical site through retraction, suctioning, camera guidance, instrument positioning, and tissue manipulation.
Control bleeding by clamping, tying, cauterizing, or applying targeted pressure as directed by the surgeon.
Perform suturing, stapling, incision closures, and drain placements, and apply surgical dressings at the completion of procedures.
Position and prepare patients for surgery while maintaining the sterile field and anticipating the surgeon’s needs.
