About The Position

Assists in providing patient care based on the individualized plan of care. As delegated, performs basic nursing activities, collects data, monitors and documents patient status, and informs the RN about activities performed, patient observations, and changes in status. Maintains patient confidentiality, uses safe patient-handling practices, and helps keep the patient environment neat and clean. This non-management position is in the Cardiac Telemetry department at Greenville Memorial Hospital and works the day shift. The role reports to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Requirements

Completion of a nursing assistant or patient care technician program.
Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
Basic computer and data-entry skills.
Mathematical skills.
Working knowledge of patient equipment, including suction, vital-sign equipment, and defibrillators.

Responsibilities

Assist patients with activities of daily living; turn and reposition patients alone or with assistance; and, as needed, transport patients and help them walk.
Assist with fall-prevention interventions and patient restraints as delegated.
Provide patient care delegated by the RN, including non-sterile soaks, simple non-sterile dressings, and perineal care.
Collect vital signs, fluid intake and output, and basic and sterile specimens; document and maintain data in the medical record; and inform the RN about care performed, observations, and changes in patient status.
Run errands, answer the telephone, and respond to call lights.
Perform point-of-care testing as trained and delegated by the RN, and report lab values to the RN.
Provide and document comfort measures and non-pharmacological pain management.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information, use safe patient-handling practices, and help maintain a neat and clean patient environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
