About The Position

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, the Certified Nursing Assistant provides support for basic student care that meets program guidelines and performance standards. Works directly with parents, children and program staff to ensure identified health and dental needs are addressed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One (1) or more years of relevant experience; Pediatric experience is preferred.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
  • Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license or be able to obtain a Colorado driver’s license within the state’s required time frame for new residents and meet the District’s insurability requirements.
  • The ability to take responsibility for one’s own performance.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Effectively handle multiple demands and competing deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • High degree of integrity in handling confidential information.
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multicultural environment with district and school leaders, faculty, staff and students.

  • Must be able to travel to sites across the district.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, provides support for basic student care that meets program guidelines and performance standards. Works directly with parents, children and program staff to ensure identified health and dental needs are addressed.
  • Ensures compliance with related laws and policies, such as reporting suspected child abuse and immunization and Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP) laws.
  • Assists with and/or completes health screenings (e.g. vision, hearing, dental, height, weight, etc.); collaborates with parent/guardian and relevant staff to obtain physical examinations as required, per program guidelines.
  • Reviews health and nutrition histories and follows up on health concerns; completes health and developmental history.
  • Determines immunizations are current at the time of enrollment and a written plan is in place to ensure needed immunizations are completed in a timely manner.
  • Determines or assists in establishing a source of ongoing and accessible medical and dental care.
  • Collaborates with Registered Nurse and other staff as appropriate to develop Health Care Action Plans for specific health care concerns; maintains ongoing communication with appropriate staff to assure completion and coordination of services to children and families.
  • Collaborates with nurse and nutrition consultant to obtain healthy weight determination and provide nutrition education to families.
  • Works with school-based health staff/RNs to consult on medical referrals, and if needed, to provide triage for minor acute illnesses and accidents.
  • Maintains accurate and organized records, including utilization of District and program databases and other technology platforms, to ensure accuracy of monthly and annual reports.
