About The Position

The Mental Health Technician provides direct patient care under the supervision of nurses. The role assists patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, eating, dressing, and toileting, and helps maintain a safe, therapeutic environment while providing crisis intervention. Unity Psychiatric Care operates psychiatric hospitals that treat geriatric patients experiencing mental health crises or behavioral disturbances, including those associated with dementia, and provides diagnostic evaluations and behavioral health treatments.

Requirements

• Certification as a Certified Nurse Assistant is required.
• CPI certification is required, or training must be completed before providing direct patient care; yearly refreshers are required.
• CMS Restraint and Seclusion training is required, or training must be completed before providing direct patient care; yearly refreshers are required.
• Must be willing and able to work flexible hours.
• Must be able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• One to two years of experience in a mental health, patient care, or geriatric setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complete, file, and retrieve medical records.
• Provide direct patient care, including bathing, dressing, and walking assistance.
• Transport patients and equipment.
• Monitor patients, conduct assessments, and report findings to a supervisor.
• Complete admission paperwork and orient patients to the hospital.
• Participate in and assist with recreational activities for patients.
• Participate in and assist with therapeutic activities for patients.
• Help provide a safe, therapeutic environment and crisis intervention.
