About The Position

Unity Psychiatric Care operates psychiatric hospitals specializing in the care of geriatric patients experiencing mental health crises or behavioral disturbances, including those associated with dementia. The Mental Health Technician (MHT) provides direct patient care under the supervision of nurses, assists patients with daily living activities such as bathing, eating, dressing, and toileting, and helps maintain a safe, therapeutic environment. The role also includes crisis intervention and participation in recreational and therapeutic activities. The listed schedule is 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.

Requirements

CNA certification is required.
CMS Restraint and Seclusion training, or completion of the training before providing direct patient care, with yearly refreshers.
Willingness and ability to work flexible hours.
The position may require unscheduled overtime, after-hours, and weekend work.
Ability to frequently lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

One to two years of experience in a mental health, patient care, or geriatric setting is preferred.
CPI certification; employees will be trained at the next available class.
CPR certification; employees will be trained at the next available class.

Responsibilities

Complete, file, and retrieve medical records.
Provide direct patient care, including bathing, dressing, and walking assistance.
Transport patients and equipment.
Monitor patients for assessments and report findings to a supervisor.
Complete admission paperwork and orient patients to the hospital.
Participate in and assist with recreational activities for patients.
Participate in and assist with therapeutic activities for patients.
Help maintain a safe, therapeutic environment and provide crisis intervention.
