About The Position

We are searching for a Certified Nurse Midwife or Nurse Practitioner to work in a fast-paced OB Triage setting. The Certified Nurse Midwife will provide independent midwifery services to patients while collaborating with the attending physician and interdisciplinary health team. The Nurse Practitioner will practice in an advanced role to provide care for obstetrics and/or gynecological patients, including outpatient roles in prenatal care, well woman, and gynecology services, as well as inpatient roles such as rounding or assisting physicians with deliveries and surgical procedures. Both roles involve working nights from 7p-7a on a Per Diem basis. As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

Requirements

Graduation from a school of midwifery required
RN - Registered Nurses and CNM - Certified Nurse-Midwife Required
Required master's degree Science in Nursing
RN - Lic-Registered Nurses by the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact
NP - Nurse Practitioner by the Texas Board of Nursing
FNP - Cert-Family Nurse Practitioner by the Texas Board of Nursing OR WHNP-BC - Cert-Womens Health Care NP by the Texas Board of Nursing

APN License, APN ACLS Cert, and ACLS NRP Cert Preferred
For employees hired with Texas Children’s before 03/01/17, an MSN is required for NPs licensed 01/01/03 or after.
For employees hired with Texas Children’s before 03/01/17, either an MSN or a certificate program is required for NPs licensed prior to 01/01/03.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain a caseload of patients based on practice goals and objectives
Provide direct clinical services and management of mothers and babies as defined in the Nurse Midwife Collaborative Guidelines of the practice
Obtain patient health histories and complete physical examinations
Document findings noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings
Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests
Perform approved therapeutic procedures based upon the patient’s clinical status
Document patient preparation and response to procedure(s)
Formulate and implement prenatal, intra-partum, postpartum, newborn and interconceptional care as defined by the nurse midwifery service
Explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patient, family and staff
Maintain professional practice and development
Consult and/or serve as an expert consultant to nursing, members of the healthcare team and to the larger community
Daily uses advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data and manage patients' caseload.
Obtains a comprehensive health, developmental, and family history on patients as documented in the patient’s medical record.
Assess the patient’s physical status through the physical examination as documented in the patient’s medical record.
Differentiates between normal and abnormal findings as documented in the patient’s medical record.
Performs or recommends age-appropriate health screening procedures as documented in the patient’s medical record.
Provides health maintenance and health promotion for women of all ages as documented in the patient’s medical record.
Performs and evaluates diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests as documented in the patient’s medical record.
Analyzes multiple sources of data and formulates a differential diagnosis in collaboration with physicians as demonstrated in the written documentation.
Follows established delegation protocols to manage specific patient problems.
Formulates a plan of care in collaboration with other health care professionals and documents the plan in the patient’s medical record.
Accurately evaluates patient’s responses to interventions and modifies the plan of care demonstrated by written documentation.
Consistently demonstrates effective communication skills and works to eliminate communication barriers.
Consistently serves as an educational resource for the patient and family, community, and other health care professionals.
Consistently applies new knowledge relevant to clinical practice.
Demonstrates current professional, managerial, and/or technical knowledge and skills.
