About The Position

Emory Healthcare is where belonging meets purpose. Our Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners are an integral part of the Emory Healthcare integrated academic health care system. This role manages the antepartal, intrapartal, postpartal, and interconceptional care of patients whose progress is essentially normal. The Certified Nurse Midwife oversees the immediate care of these mothers and their newborns and may, as appropriate, provide direct nursing care. This role also promotes the effectiveness and efficiency of Nurse-Midwifery Services and promotes the profession. The Certified Nurse Midwife interacts and collaborates with and serves as a resource to other patient care team members in determining patient care priorities when establishing a care plan. They use available resources to clarify standards of care, policies, and procedures, and support and assist in clinical research activities pertaining to Nurse Midwifery Services. Additionally, they may provide clinical instruction and supervision in basic nursemidwifery courses when faculty needs temporary assistance.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
A master's degree in nursing required.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia or a current temporary permit to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia.
Certification by the American College of Nurse Midwives.
BLS and Healthcare Provider certifications required.

Responsibilities

Manages the antepartal, intrapartal, postpartal, and interconceptional care of patients whose progress is essentially normal.
Oversees the immediate care of these mothers and their newborns and may, as appropriate, provide direct nursing care.
Promotes the effectiveness and the efficiency of Nurse-Midwifery Services and promotes the profession.
Interacts and collaborates with and serves as a resource to other patient care team members in determining patient care priorities when establishing a care plan.
Uses available resources to clarify standards of care, policies, and procedures.
Supports and assists in clinical research activities pertaining to Nurse Midwifery Services.
May provide clinical instruction and supervision in basic nursemidwifery courses when faculty needs temporary assistance.
Reviews patient's medical history, patient chart, and physician's diagnosis and orders to determine a care plan for the patient.
Develops a patient care plan, which includes clear, measurable goals.
Determines the equipment, materials, and resources needed to successfully implement a patient's care plan.
Identifies patient problems, symptoms, and behavioral changes and determines and prioritizes appropriate nurse-midwife interventions.
Determines whether or not patient's condition requires nurse midwifery management, physician consultation or referral, collaborative management, or emergency care.
Revises patient care plans to meet patient's changing needs.
May administer direct patient care to assigned patients following established policies, procedures, and protocols of Nurse-Midwifery Services.
Ensures optimum patient care including provision of prenatal care according to the Centering Pregnancy: model of group prenatal care.
Discusses the care plan with the patient and family, teaching team to perform specific procedures satisfactorily, and documenting these activities to ensure a full understanding of the patient's continued care.
Communicates patients' needs and responses through appropriate verbal and written communications.
Keeps the patient's family and patient care team abreast of the patient's progress.
When required, explains the rationale or principles behind the physiology or consequences of treatments.
Obtains or updates the appropriate database based on the type of patient encounter, such as patient visit or medical round.
Documents all aspects of patient care following the established charting procedure to show the patient's progress or any change in the patient's condition.
Performs other related duties as required.
