About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant works closely with a primary care physician to deliver excellent patient care within the Medical Assisting scope of practice and applicable state guidelines. The role includes reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for examinations. The position is with Trailwood Primary Care - MHP Youngstown, and the listed schedule is 40 hours per week on day shifts.

Requirements

• High school degree or GED.
• Active medical assisting certification from an accepted organization: CMA (American Association of Medical Assistants), RMA (American Medical Technologists), CCMA (National Healthcareer Association), NRCMA (National Association for Health Professionals), or NCMA (National Center for Competency Testing).
• If unable to obtain medical assistant certification, Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable, except in South Carolina.
• Problem-solving skills, basic computer skills, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to engage professionally with staff and patients.

Nice To Haves

• One year of medical assistant healthcare experience (preferred, not required).
• Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office (preferred, not required).
• BLS Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is preferred at hire for BSMH locations, and required at hire for Roper St. Francis Healthcare locations; for BSMH, it is required before independent patient care.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and community members respectfully and provide excellent customer service.
• Prepare and review patient charts for upcoming visits, verifying diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date.
• Measure vital signs, including pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height.
• Perform departmental clerical duties, including checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones as needed.
• Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
