About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant supports physicians and other professional healthcare providers in an ambulatory care setting by assisting with patient care, examinations, exam preparation, and laboratory work. The role performs basic medical assisting procedures to support patients’ care, comfort, and safety and serves the community. Bilingual English/Spanish communication is required.

The position is based at Holy Cross Health Center in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The schedule is days with some evenings and no weekends or holidays.

Requirements

• Medical Assistant certification from AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA, NHA, NAHP, or NPCE.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Bilingual English/Spanish.

Nice To Haves

• At least one year of previous Medical Assistant experience in a physician’s office.

Responsibilities

• Show patients to exam rooms, interview them, measure vital signs, and document findings in the Electronic Health Record.
• Assess patient symptoms, reactions, and physical condition, and record data in the medical record.
• Collect required laboratory samples, prepare them for pickup, document them in the patient electronic health record, and coordinate with appropriate departments about lab protocols and procedure information.
• Set up examination rooms and prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
• Assist with examinations and procedures according to physician or healthcare provider preference, including gynecological exams, minor surgeries, electrocautery, biopsies, sigmoidoscopies, casting, sterile technique procedures, and specimen preparation.
• Maintain knowledge and skills in front-office operations.
• Assist as needed with reception, medical records, scheduling, and billing functions.
